Perhaps the most popular short river in Nepal, the Trisuli was the first river made available for commercial rafting. This big and friendly river traverses the foothills from Langtang and follows the main highway to Chitwan. Rafting starts in different places depending on the water level, but the best section is run from Chaurdy to Fishing with some awesome class 4+ rapids. In the high water you can even run this river down from Trisuli Bazaar found to the north of Kathmandu. There are some big and bouncy rapids that are challenging and fun but very safe. It’s an ideal trip for families and first-timers or those a bit nervous in whitewater. You can continue rafting down to Chitwan for a jungle safari.
Who’s it for?
The Trisuli is a great river for those wanting to break up a journey between Kathmandu and either Pokhara or Chitwan. Big and fun it’s a great day out or overnight trip with superb beaches for camping. For the Kayaker, the Trisuli is a good warm-up for longer expeditions in Nepal or a nice introduction in the low water for the novice paddler.

Typical early morning start with a bus journey of around three hours to the river. Our put in point depends on the water level. On arrival at the river, we meet the guides, have lunch and get a full river safety briefing. After lunch, we hit the river for some paddling warm up and fun. Camp out under the stars on a beautiful riverside beach. Enjoy some delicious campfire cooking and time with your paddling pals.
After breakfast, we break camp and head back to the river. The second day is packed full of action with some big rapids like ‘Ladies Delight’, ‘Monsoon’ and ‘Up Set’. Try and paddle hard and stay in the boat, but don’t worry if you swim, your friendly safety kayaker will help you back in the boat! We reach our take-out point and have lunch, and then it’s time to head back to Kathmandu or onward to Chitwan or Pokhara.
